At Camp Cedar Glen we seek to make the world a better place by instilling our visitors with the knowledge that they can make a difference in the future health of our planet and resources. As part of the camp’s mission to foster Earth stewardship we are excited to announce that we will be growing our program to include an environmental education center for all ages. This interactive hub for our program will be located in a historical WWII barracks building from San Diego that is a cabin original to Cedar Glen. To bring an older structure up to modern standards while creating a program with lasting influence takes time, dedication and resources. However, we believe making a permanent location for an interpretive nature center is vital to the accessibility and sustainability of the program. As the gravity of human impact on our environment becomes more relevant every day, we seek to be a foundation step and guiding resource for conservation. Our dedicated staff are eager to share decades of collective experience taking our program to the next level making Camp Cedar Glen a destination for Earth education. We hope to make a difference in the future of our planet one camper at a time!
Plans are underway for the center and include an interesting combination of information with real specimens and hands on experiences to bring lessons to life. The theme of the space will be cycles and the interconnections of all life and resources on Earth. Emphases will be placed on flora and fauna in the Julian area as well as our role as humans and how we can change our habits for the better.
We would love help of any kind including volunteers, supplies, ideas, Julian wildlife information etc! Through grants and other generous contributions we hope to acquire the funding to make a space for all to enjoy and learn.
